Self-evaluation of teacher development

What is effective review of your development as a teacher? After yet another day of tedious behaviour management as opposed to actual teaching of technical content (whereby the students actively learn said content), how to evaluate yourself?
So, did what any depressed teacher would do and start to look at job advertisements. One advert asked for a statement to describe "impact" at current school, which brought a chuckle and thought-bubble "next!"...Conclusion so far: better the devil you know?; only move to another similar role when desperate to leave as soon as possible?; if career progression (i.e. management) onwards and upwards is really sought, a clear strategic plan on how to develop those criteria is necessary. Sounds obvious, but which path to take?
