During the week of the northern hemisphere solstice, reminded of the futility of "science" as a mandatory subject. In an era of mass mis/dis-information, the notion of the national curriculum as "foundations for understanding the world" seems naive and increasingly irrelevant. Many lessons are punctuated by numerous claims of nonsense seen on social media. Access to information seems not to have encouraged a curiousity to gain deep comprehension of anything. A pity.
What to do? Children benefit from structure and guidance, but the modern notion of "move fast, break things" is not conducive to anything other than passivity for the masses.
