Perhaps the mentality of this post may be attributed to the time of the year, but the boredom of the job seems most apparent recently.
Lesson after lesson, the vast majority of classes exhibit scant desire, appreciation, nor respect of chemistry. It is sad that to date, a school has not be found whereby the innate enthusiasm for chemistry may be shared effectively. However there is "light at the end of the tunnel" when one reads about 'citizen science' (e.g. Claire Murray at Diamond Light Source, courtesy of Sella the Chemist). Similarly, without schadenfreude the decline in popularity of English Literature as commented by Daisy Christodoulou (courtesy of 'Grant H') is a reminder that the "hey-day" of chemistry may well be past. Subjects' popularity is bound to change, as a result of the social context.
Will the next place re-kindle that enthusiasm?
